HISTORY
When in early 1990s Jean Lecouls, entrepreneur and initiator of the project, asked the American architect Rocky Roquemore to design a golf course at the gates of Bayonne, in the middle of an oak grove, the main idea was the space available, approximately 87 hectares. This space has made it possible to create the longest course from Landes to the border of the South Basque Country.
THE COURSE
18 HOLES – 87 HECTARES – 6176 METERS – 72 PAR
Located at the gates of Bayonne and 10 minutes from Biarritz, the Makila Golf Club is a par 72 with a length of 6176 m. But when you practice it, you hike around 9000m. Surrounded by magnificent oak trees, designed in large spaces, it offers wide fairways, with holes distinct from each other. The American architect has managed to harmonise a very stylish layout in a grandiose, hilly and wooded natural site, to allow golfers of all levels to be at their ease and enjoy the magnificient views of the Pyrenees ย mountains.
